What Are You Ready to Release? Full Moon Yoga + Sound Bath in Popoyo
There is something about a full moon that makes you want to pause.
Sure, many people pause simply to look at her in all her glowing glory. Maybe they try to snap a photo, only to realize moments later that a photo will never quite do her justice.
But then there are those who go a step further and look deeper.
They look at what's working. What's not. What unnecessary baggage they've been carrying. What they're ready to let go of.
On Friday, August 28, we're gathering at Magnific Rock in Popoyo for an evening of Full Moon Yoga + Sound Bath centered around one simple intention:
Bring what you're ready to release.
The August Sturgeon Moon: A Time of Transition
August's full moon is traditionally known as the Sturgeon Moon. Other names associated with the August moon include the Grain Moon and Green Corn Moon, reflecting the harvest season and this particular moment of transition between summer and fall.
Here in Nicaragua, of course, the seasons look a little different. We're not exactly pulling out sweaters and watching the leaves change color in Popoyo. Instead, we're experiencing more rain, quieter beaches, and fewer tourists.
But many of the people who pass through here are still connected to that familiar seasonal rhythm.
Summer is winding down. Kids are going back to school. Vacations are ending. Routines are returning.
There's a subtle sense that one chapter is closing and another is beginning.
And you don't need traditional seasons to recognize that feeling in your own life.
Sometimes we reach a point where we realize something has run its course.
A habit. A relationship. An expectation. A version of ourselves. A belief about how life was supposed to look.
Working with the full moon gives us a moment to pause long enough to acknowledge it—and perhaps decide that we don't need to carry it with us into whatever comes next.
Why Practice Yoga During a Full Moon?
For me, working with the moon isn't about magically changing your life.
It's about creating ritual around something we're often not very good at doing:
Stopping long enough to listen.
We spend so much of our lives adding.
More goals. More plans. More responsibilities. More things we think we should be doing.
But what if creating the life we want isn't always about adding something new? What if sometimes we need to make space first?
That's the intention we'll bring into this Full Moon Yoga practice.
Moving It Through the Body
I'll begin the evening with a special version of my Fire + Flow yoga class, using Kundalini-inspired kriyas and movement focused on letting go and creating space.
We'll work with heart-opening postures to create expansion through the front body, spinal twists to move and wring out tension, and Ego Eradicator with Breath of Fire to bring energy, breath, and awareness into the practice.
From there, we'll transition into a gentle yoga flow, giving the body an opportunity to soften after the stronger energetic work.
Everything will be beginner-friendly, and modifications will be offered throughout the practice.
You don't need to be flexible.
You don't need to have practiced Kundalini yoga before.
And you definitely don't need to arrive having figured out exactly what you're supposed to release.
You just need to show up.
Then, We Get Still
After movement comes stillness.
Emilie will guide us through an immersive sound bath using a collection of instruments, including chimes and hand drum, to create layers of vibration and sound while you rest.
This is your opportunity to do absolutely nothing.
No poses to perfect. No place you need to be. No phone to check.
Just lie down, listen, and receive.
My hope is that you'll walk away feeling a little clearer and a little lighter.
Maybe you'll receive an insight you've been searching for.
Maybe inspiration will bubble up once things get quiet.
Maybe you'll realize what you're ready to leave behind.
Or maybe you'll simply spend 75 minutes breathing, moving, and resting alongside other humans—and remember that whatever you're moving through, you're not the only one.
That's enough too.
