Curious About Kundalini Yoga? Here's What to Expect at Fire & Flow in Popoyo

If you've ever been curious about Kundalini Yoga but weren't quite sure what it was, you're not alone.

Many students arrive at my Fire & Flow class at Mag Rock in Popoyo wondering the same thing:

"Fire and Flow? What does that even mean?"

Cardio and Yin? Not exactly.
Fire breathing and hula dancing? Nope.

The fire comes from Kundalini Yoga—a powerful combination of breathwork, movement, meditation, and repetitive exercises known as kriyas. These practices help clear stagnant energy, awaken your natural vitality, and reconnect you with your creative life force.

Think of it as a way to shake off the mental clutter, stress, and old stories that no longer fit the person you're becoming.

The flow comes from Vinyasa Yoga. After building heat and energy through our Kundalini practice, we transition into a gentle (and occasionally spicy) flow featuring familiar postures like Downward Dog, Warrior poses, Tree Pose, Pigeon, and Happy Baby.

The result? A class that leaves you feeling grounded, energized, and more connected to yourself.

Benefits of Kundalini Yoga

1. Become More Grounded

One of the biggest challenges many of us face is living almost entirely in our heads.

We're planning, worrying, scrolling, comparing, analyzing, and thinking about the next thing before we've fully experienced the present moment.

Throughout class, I regularly invite students to return their attention to their breath. If the mind is especially busy, I'll encourage them to make an audible sound with their breath to help anchor their awareness.

My hope is that for one hour, you get a break from living in your mind and an opportunity to fully inhabit your body.

And with the ocean breeze and panoramic views of Beginner's Bay, it's not a bad place to practice presence.

2. Build Genuine Confidence

Breathwork is one of the most underrated tools for personal transformation.

More powerful than liquid courage, external validation, or trying to impress the room, learning how to regulate your breath can help you regulate your nervous system—and that changes everything.

Many students report feeling calmer, clearer, and more confident after consistent practice.

Not confidence rooted in ego or superiority.

In fact, one of Kundalini's most famous kriyas is called Ego Eradicator.

The confidence cultivated through practice is more about self-acceptance:

"These are my strengths. These are the areas where I'm still growing. And both are okay."

3. Make Meditation Easier

If you've ever sat down to meditate only to find your mind racing, you're definitely not alone.

Modern life isn't exactly designed to help us slow down. Between notifications, social media, and endless stimulation, many people find it difficult to sit still long enough to access deeper insights.

That's where Kundalini can help.

The kriyas and breathwork we practice before meditation help burn off excess mental energy, making it easier to settle into stillness afterward.

Many students are surprised to discover that just a few minutes of movement and breathwork can dramatically improve their meditation practice.
