Why Taking a Yoga Class in Popoyo Is Different (Even If You’re Already Active)
If you’re staying in Popoyo, chances are you’re already moving your body a lot.
Surfing. Walking the beach. Maybe squeezing in a little cardio or a sunset stretch.
That was me too.
I teach yoga every Monday and Wednesday at Mag Rock—but here’s the thing: I don’t consider myself a “yoga teacher” in the traditional sense.
Yes, I guide classes. And I love it.
But my main work is in content marketing, ghostwriting, and running an online business. I even wrote a book about building a life you’re excited to wake up to.
Yoga, for me, started as something else entirely.
Not a profession.
Not a performance.
Just a way to feel better in my body—and more connected to the place I live.
Living in Popoyo Means Staying Active… But That’s Not the Same as Yoga
One of the biggest misconceptions I see from travelers in Popoyo is this:
“I don’t need yoga—I’m already active.”
And I get it.
When you’re surfing most days, swimming, exploring, and generally living outside, your body is moving constantly.
But here’s what I noticed recently…
Last week, I didn’t teach my usual classes.
On Monday, no one showed up.
On Wednesday, I had to cancel to do a border run.
And within a few days, I felt it.
My body was tighter.
My muscles ached more than usual.
Even getting out of bed felt harder.
That’s when it clicked:
It wasn’t that I wasn’t active… it was that I hadn’t done yoga.
Why Yoga in Popoyo Hits Different
There’s something about showing up to a class—especially here in Popoyo—that changes the experience completely.
When I’m on my own, sure, I might stretch a little before bed.
But it’s not the same.
In a class, you:
Move more intentionally
Stay longer in each posture
Breathe deeper (instead of rushing through)
Actually give your body the attention it’s been asking for
And maybe most importantly… you get out of your head.
That’s what yoga really is for me.
Not just flexibility.
Not just strength.
It’s a reset.
Yoga as a Way to Connect (Not Just Exercise)
Teaching yoga in Popoyo has become one of my favorite ways to connect—with both myself and the community.
It’s not about being perfect.
It’s not about being advanced.
It’s about showing up.
Some days people come straight from the surf, salty and sun-kissed.
Some days they’re stiff from travel.
Some days they just need a moment to breathe.
And every single time, something shifts.
Why I Keep Teaching (Even Though It’s Not My “Job”)
I don’t teach yoga for the money.
And while I love helping others feel more grounded, lighter, and more at ease in their bodies…
I also teach for me.
Because I feel the difference when I don’t.
Teaching keeps me consistent.
It keeps me present.
It keeps me in my body instead of stuck in my head.
And in a place like Popoyo—where life already feels a little freer—that kind of grounding matters even more.
